Menu Categories

Categories help organize your menu items into logical sections, making it easier for customers to navigate.

Available Categories

Allergenius provides pre-defined categories:

  • Starters: Appetizers, small plates
  • Main Course: Entrées, main dishes
  • Sides: Side dishes, accompaniments
  • Salads: Fresh salads, greens
  • Soups: Hot and cold soups
  • Sandwiches and Wraps: Sandwiches, wraps, rolls
  • Desserts: Sweet treats, puddings
  • Drinks: Beverages, hot drinks
  • Specials: Daily specials, limited items
  • Breakfast: Morning menu items
  • Item: General category for uncategorized items

Assigning Categories

When adding or editing a menu item:

  1. Find the Category dropdown
  2. Select the appropriate category
  3. Save your changes

How Categories Display

On the public menu page, items are grouped by category in a logical order. Customers can:

  • View all items in each category
  • Filter to show specific categories
  • See category headers as they scroll

Tips for Using Categories

  • Be consistent: Use the same categories across all menus
  • Match expectations: Use categories customers expect
  • Don't over-categorize: Too many categories can confuse
  • Consider flow: Arrange from starters to desserts
